The trouble with homespun....

I've been to about 6 or 7 quilt shops from Spring, Texas down to Galveston. And guess what I found??? Very little to NO homespun.

I was told at the last shop, yesterday, "Homespun really isn't in style anymore." Oh really??

I understand each store has it's own "style" and carries fabric that the owner loves, but to tell me homespun isn't in style??? I don't know.

So, I did what I didn't want to do. I Googled "homespun fabric". I found several online shops that specialize in homespuns. And, I ordered three different pieces of fabrics. One or two should work, right?? I have some pieces large enough for the inner border I have planned....and I'll see what works once they get here.

I don't know, I've always been a bit behind the times.....I still like homespun fabrics. I've been collecting them for a long time. I made a little throw about 10 years ago, made with homespun. And, now I've made Homespun Stars. Sounds like a real trend at my house. :)

I remember a few years back when a shop owner told my MIL that reproduction fabrics were no longer in style *HA*
Glad you found some resources.

I got a kick out of this post! I love homespuns too. There is an online fabric shop, Thousands of Bolts, that has some if you are looking for more. (I have no affiliation there!)

I love using homespun in masculine quilts. I have had to resort to Walmart to find it. They usually have it on their tables of discount fabric. (Maybe because it's "out of style". Of course, WE are the ones who make the style - not retailers! What are they thinking?)

I've never use Homespun before, but, I'm starting to really like it, too. I can find it up here on occasion. Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt.

Today I had to go to TWO quilt shops for a single spool of cream-colored hand quilting thread! One shop had only 8 spools, none the right color. This was a busy quilt shop! The second had an off-brand, but it was 100 percent cotton, so I bought it. Glad you found some homespun.

I am always late to the party when it comes to styles and liking new things. Oh well, that is just who I am.

Luckily we can still get the homespuns here up in Cache Valley, UT. I still enjoy using them and for men and boys, they are a good staple.

I found some homespun on ebay. It is my go-to place when I want something unusual.

I love homespuns also and used to have some difficulty finding any here in Austin but he the last time I was in Joann's they have quite a bit of it so you might check them out next time you get out and about.

I have a big homespun quilt on the go...it's very much "in style" in my sewing room! But then I don't follow trends. The great thing about the internet is that you can find fabric in whatever style you like, not just what a local store owner likes!

I love your homespun stars quilt. I started a small collection a few years ago but haven't looked at my LQS lately. I'm glad to have the links to your online resources.

We shouldn't be made to feel like a relic or not "with it" when we express a desire to buy something like homespun, feedsacksomething I love!), or whatever....Glad you found some sources. Maybe there will be others that pop up as a result of this post.

I've never used homespun before, but now you have me interested in finding some to try out. Btw, what good quilt shops do you know of around Spring, Texas?
