Spider Web Quilt Blocks

I went to bed at 1:00 this morning, and woke up wide awake at 5:00. I hate it when that happens. I blame it on nightmares. I have them frequently....and they always revolve around my immediate family being in danger, and I have to protect them. I have started dreaming about my daughter in law and grandson now being with us when things go crazy. And, Dear Hubby is always in his wheelchair. This morning the dream involved three men outside our house, with guns, trying to get in while we all slept.

So, what did I do?? What every quilter would do, I got up and .....I started sewing. I made some more Spider Web blocks. These things do not go really fast. Two hours of sewing and I made about (13) seven inch blocks. With the others I had made up already, I was able to get (5) of the large 14 inch blocks put together.

I am using my scrap bucket for the dark fabrics. Because of the weird shape of the light piece, I am pulling my 4 inch strips of lights to make this block. It's not hard, just a bit time consuming, but a great way to use up those scraps in the scrap bucket.

The pattern is a free paper pieced block from Quilter's Cache. You can find the Spider Web block here. When I use my odd shaped bit and pieces from the scrap bucket I will either use a paper pieced block or a foundation pieced block. These pieces are just easier to deal with using some sort of foundation.

My intentions were to baste the baby quilt this weekend. But, I never left the house....so no basting pins. I'm taking Dear Younger Daughter out today for some Mama and Me time, so we'll try to make a stop at Hobby Lobby for some pins. I have been through every single item in my sewing room, setting the place up, and cannot find my basting pins. I have about 100 of them, and I even know which container they are in, but I cannot find them. Does anyone else have problems like this??? So frustrating. Fortunately, they aren't too expensive, and I do have a coupon.

Ok.....so off the computer and on to my day. Hmmmm....maybe I need a 45 minute snooze first!

Happy Quilting!!!!!!!!!

My hubby had a nightmare this week...he heard me snoring and thought in his sleep that the noise was caused by an intruder. And in his dream he grabbed a pistol and shot at the intruder but he missed. I awoke and realized he was in a nightmare so I nudged him till he awoke. I hate those panicky nightmares! They seem so real!!!!

Hope you find your basting pins. If not, you will have 200 of them after your trip to Hobby Lobby.

Oh, I should add this thought! You can thread baste by taking very large stitches...leaving several inches between the stitches. Start in the middle, move outward. I usually use the pins, but sometimes I thread baste.

Sorry about those basting pins ..... they'll turn up when you least expect it. Your spiderweb blocks are gorgeous - nice and scrappy and how productive of you to get a bunch sewn up so quickly.

Your spider web blocks are beautiful and what patience you have to do them. Yes, I often lose things in my sewing room and it just drives me crazy. Thanks for the eye candy!

I love Scrap quilts and your Spider web quilt is so beautiful. I have made one with a black background, but your quilt with the light background fabrics is so stunning.

reminds me of a kalidioscope I had when I was young...quite pretty with all of the colors tumbling across the view.

Ohh, nightmares. Good topic. If I could bring them up from within the depths. I can't. Like the sewing you have going on here. Very fun. It feels good to sew, doesn't it? I'm happy you're back into it and settled into the new home which means your pins could be ANY-DERN-WHERE! Being a clutter bug this happens to me... well... actually I do know where most things are even though the house is a total wreck. My house looks a little like a younger person lives here if you know what I mean. You're a Mom, of course you know what I mean. :)

I love seeing photos of your new sewing area...apparently I've missed some post along the way even though I don't always comment. I too have icky dreams that scare me terribly. What is really bad is that some of my premonitions have come true....I also hate when in a horrible dream I try to wake myself and am telling myself WAKE UP....and it doesn't happen easily. Getting up to stitch is a fantastic idea to take ones mind off the other. Your blocks are fantastic!!

I have nightmares periodically too -- and they seem to stay with me for the rest of the next day. Yuck! Next time I"m getting up and stitching.
I love your spiderweb blocks -- they're fabulous!

Hi Paula,

Thanks for stopping by my "place" for a visit. I haven't visited you in a while...going through a life change myself.

I hope Dear Hubby adjusts to your new home soon.

Thanks so much for this pattern. I've been wanting to make a spiderweb quilt for a while and this is so less intimidating to me.

This kind of makes me wonder how my Kaleidoscope GO die would look with string pieced sections.

That's a beautiful Spider web. One of the better ways to get your mind off bad dreams. Hope you were able to catch up on your sleep!
