Random Give Away

How about a random give away???? Sounds like fun to me!!!

This drawing will be for two different prizes. The first prize is this awesome quilt book entitled, "Quilts from Lavender Hill Farm" by Darlene Zimmerman.

There is a quilt in this book called Frosty Morning....a two color quilt, in blue and white. So pretty. You could get started now and have this one ready for January's cold days. There is a log cabin quilt, a Depression Era quilt, a Pineapple quilt, a pumpkin quilt......one quilt a month. Nice book.

The other gift is a set of random Fat Quarters that I've picked up here and there at some of my favorite local quilt shops. A red wavy stripe, a Fig Tree floral, a blue print by Nancy Halvorsen, a muddy gold print and a Moda print from the line Nell's Flower Shop. Great quilt shop quality fabrics.

All you have to do is answer this question:

Why do you quilt???

Not as easy to answer as you might think!! I'm looking forward to reading your responses.

The drawing will close April 23rd at 10:00 p.m. Central Time. I will announce the two winners on April 24th....sometime during the day. I'll do my best to get the prizes out in the mail on the 27th, but no promises. We roll with the punches around here and hold all plans loosely!!

This drawing is open to everyone. I'll be glad to ship internationally, so everyone join in the fun!!!

Happy Random Give Away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well....I'm just getting into quilting and the reason is..I want to be able to have something special to leave my 2 adorable grandson's to remember me by to let them how much I love and adore them, it's an art form that has spanned many decades and I hope will continue to flourish with generations to come!!
Can't beleive I'm the 1st. comment

hmmmm...why do I quilt? Partially to see if I could, I guess. (and I can!!!) I learned how to sew in high school and have made many types of things...crafts, clothing for myself and my sons (and now my granddaughter). But, I always steered clear of quilting. Too much work, not enough instant gratification...or so I thought. I am in the process of finishing my very first quilt and, though it's not perfect, I am pleased with it.

I just found your blog today...am in love with your Scripture Quilt. Hoping you have details of how you did that somewhere.

Great giveaway! Blog On!

I think it would be easier to comment On why I breath: From the day I started quilting it has just been such an intricate part of who I am" I cannot imagine not doing some sort of quilting. I love the feel of the fabric not to mention all the wonderfull colors. People ask me what are my favorite colors hughhhhhhhhhhh all of them! I love every form of quilting from the hand work to the machine. My biggest problem is settling down to work on just one project at a time.

Hello Paula, I just yesterday received the Lavender Hill quilting book. I ordered it from Amazon. You are right it is a wonderful book with some beautiful quilt patterns in it. Why do I quilt? My first thought was...to stay sane. LOL I took up quilting after our youngest moved out. I went from having 5 kids running around to just dh and I. I was not a happy empty nester, so I took up quilting. Now I love everything about it (except maybe the basting). I am a hand quilter. First I pet the fabric, then I cut it into shapes, sew them together, then sit and quilt in my rocker, and finally run my hands over it and admire the little quilting bumps. I'll bet you didn't expect a whole page as a comment, hmmm? LOL So I would love to be entered for the fabric, but I have the book. Take care, Winona

I quilt because it is my therapy to relieve stress...and end up with something useful. I especially love scrap quilts making something warm, cuddly, useful from something some sewers would toss.

I just Love, Love, Love, giveaways!! And Quilt related makes it even better!!

I quilt because I love colors and change. Quilting gives me both. I never have been able to find my style in anything and quilting lets me have many styles! Sometimes I feel bright and then my quilt reflects that. And other times I feel blue and when I am undecided I get scrappy quilts!

Paula, you're back!! How did I miss that you're back????? I kept visiting your blog and knew that you were busy, busy with the wedding! I just looked through all the pictures - everyone looks happy and full of joy!

I quilt because it fulfills a need to be creative. When I quilt all the troubles of the day just disappear and I'm in my 'bliss'. Why do you quilt?

Christine said...

Why do I quilt? I love the look of a quilt on my bed...
My day isn't complete without some stitching in it...it fulfills a need to be creating...
looks like a very nice quilt book and great fabric
...also love the friendships quilting brings with it...

Because I have too. Once I discovered quilting, there was not a time that I didn't do it at least in small way which grew into a large way.

Karen said...

Why do I quilt? Well, why not? LOL!!

Fabrics, colors, threads, patterns, shopping and creating are the main reason that I quilt. There are always a few ongoing projects in my sewing room....some waiting to be quilted or bound and loads of fabrics that I love, love love.

Quilting brings balance and peace to my life, much like knitting does, but even better.

Quilts make wonderful gifts, and can be in many different sizes and shapes, from bed size, throws, baby sized, to table runners, and so forth. Never have to be concerned about what to give as a gift!

Kim said...

why do I quilt? It keeps me busy so I can't kill the teens (joking) but for my sanity. There's nothing like pushing a needle of thread through fabric and seeing something beautiful and sometimes useful.
Some people eat junk food in front of the tv watching their favorite show- I prefer to hand piece or hand quilt something.

Cathi said...

Why do I quilt? For the serenity that hand stitching brings; for the creative outlet it affords me; for the sheer joy and fun of playing with fabrics and colour combinations; and for the fact that, in the end, one ends up with something useful to keep or give as a gift.

I quilt because I love giving to others. I also love reaching out a helping hand to anyone including strangers. Everyone needs something to call their very own.

Why do I quilt? Somestimes I think it's just to annoy my husband. I guess I do it because I haven't found a fabric I don't like and want to use. Seems sort of silly though to buy all that yardage, cut it up into small pieces, and then sew it all back to together.....wait, that does sound a little crazy. I love it. I Love What I Do, and I Do What I Love!

I've been quilting since 1991. Quilting gives me peace. The rythm of hand quilting makes me forget all of the cares of the day. I love working with colors and when I discovered the pleasure of feeling good cotton in my hands it was all over; it's the only craft for me.
Thanks for this great giveaway.

Quilting is the most relaxing and inspiring thing for me to do. Even if I'm not sewing, the quilting room is my favorite place to be. I'm surrounded by beautiful fabrics and books full of future projects to dream about doing. Life is good!!!!!

Unknown said...

My reason for quilting/sewing.....I won't bore you with the little details. However, growing having a rough childhood, I've never felt like I could do "anything" or do it right or good. Sewing is one thing I've found that I can do good in and am very proud of the work I've done and the many items I've donated. Kinda makes me forget about the "past" or my childhood.

It started with a love for quilts and desire to have some of my own, but now I HAVE to quilt! It's just a part of my life now and I have to quilt to fulfill the need to create the beautiful things I love

What a great question! Why do I quilt? I love the creative process, even though I am not creative. I love cutting up fabric and putting it back together like a puzzle. I love the feeling of accomplishment when I finally get a quilt done. I think mostly I love seeing the end result. Whether it is a quilt, a tablerunner, wall hanging or a purse. But why do I quilt? I believe that it is mostly something that gives me the satisfaction of accomplishment, a start to finish project.

Thanks for coming over to my blog. I found your blog and I just love your scrap quilts that you have made. The reason I quilt is because I love scrap quilts and they speak to me and the journey is so fun making them. My daughter says I'm obsessed with making quilts, which I have to admit I am. In a nutshell, it brings me great joy and satisfaction and is good therapy.

Why do I quilt? Oh-there are so many reasons! The colors of the fabric, the feel of the fabric, the fun of choosing the fabrics to put together, the rhythem of the stitching (both by machine and by hand - they each have their own rhythem), the delight when you open up a newly sewn block to see the pattern emerge, to produce quilts to snuggle around my loved ones, to put my ideas together - to create... oh my I love to quilt!

Why do I quilt. It gives me a creative outlet and gives me something to do while listening to talk radio. I can share my creativity with others as I give many quilts away to charities. I love to play and creative and have choosen fabric and sewing machine as the medium.

Oh I would love the book as I am inspired to make a few 2 color quilts this year and you mentioned a blue and white quilt...and I love that cover quilt too!
why do I quilt?
it makes me happy, I love the fabrics /colors/patterns
I love antique quilts and since I can't afford to buy them this is a way for me to own quilts inspired by antique quilts.
I have such a feeling of accomplished when I see a quilt I made hanging on the wall or being used by one of my children.
It certainly is my outlet and a wonderful stress reliever for me...
what a fun giveaway
thanks...

So kind of you to offer this giveaway, thank you!

I quilt because I need handwork and because I need an outlet. I've been building up to it for a few years now, and am finally embarking after "training" my hands on small sewing projects. Long-term I hope to become adept at hand quilting but for now am just trying to manage a finish! In the midst of child-rearing, working and community obligations, sewing gives me a small quiet spot within which to dream.

Michaela said...

I love to play with fabrics, combine colors and find those that look great together. Quilting offers all that and much more. The quick way to finish a small project and be satisfied with something created. Or complicated project that takes on years and small bit of sewing here and there, but at the end is very special.
I don't it is hard question, just like you said. Quilting has it all, well all I am looking for in craft.

I started quilting (self taught), because it was frugal at a time when I had little money. I had fabrics or they were cheaply had. So gifts for baby showers were from what I had on hand. I never considered my time invested as part of the cost. Now, I quilt because I like the processes involved: planning, cutting, pieceing etc. I so love the internet for the connections it gives me with other quilters out there....(I was always stuck at home with little ones and no way to go to guild meetings)...for sharing knowledge, friendships and ideas.

Wow, great giveaway!

Why do I quilt? I quilt for many reasons. One, it relaxes me. Just being in my own little world doing something I enjoy. 2. The challenge - I love puzzles and making quilts can be like putting together a puzzle. 3. The people you meet - I have met so many awesome people through blogs and quilts! 4. the people you touch - when I give a quilt away I can tell that the person who received it will cherish it and that makes it more special and warms my heart, and when its to a great organization that helps those in need it makes it even more special!
5. Its an art - a lost art. And while I can't draw or paint, I can sew and enjoy it!
That is why I quilt!

I think I have always been in love with the 'idea' of making a quilt - I just never thought I had the skill it would take to do so.
Over the years, I have tried just about every kind of home-craft that has come into vogue, some of these were disasters and others have stayed with me in one form or another to this day.
Still I wanted to make a quilt - but I had no idea how to use a sewing machine. I inherited my mom's machine. I didn't know how to use it, yet I couldn't part with it.
Finally I decided that elves were not going to magically appear one night and make a quilt for me. I enlisted Hubby to figure out how to operate the machine, I bought some fabrics, a few tools and a pattern - then got to work.
It was like coming home - the thing I should have been doing all along to satisfy not only the homemaker in me but a creative outlet, too! Nearly 10 years later, I can't get enough and there's no end in sight *s*

I quilt because I've always been a sewer and a crafter and this is where I've gotten to with that combined. I love the fabric and the creativeness of it, and I love the lovely ladies involved in it. There is a special community of quilters which are such wonderful people and I'm proud to be included with them. It's lovely to create special things for special people too.

Paula, sorry I forgot, not trying to wangle another entry! I loved the wedding photos, looks like it was a magnificent event! Do hope you are feeling better now and good luck with the sewing, you'll enjoy some quiet time, I'm sure.

I quilt because the right-brain part of me is the size of a pea, yet quilting allows me to be creative based on my left-brain side - with math, analysis, logic, sequence, etc. It's a creative process that really appeals to the cut-and-dry, black-and-white side of me!

why do I quilt? because gun ammo and range time is getting too darn expensive! just kidding (not). I quilt because it is my basket weaving therapy. I have done just about any and all crafting stuff. nothing is more relaxing that getting out the rotary and slicing and dicing, then putting it all together for a blanket of warmth and loooooooooooove. I have made quilts of all sizes for 4 legged and 2 legged friends, would not give it up for anything. (mauh) Liz

I am a "doer", a "worker bee", an "up with the roosters and work all day farm girl", who sits at a desk in the city. I was raised to get your work done before you play. And quilting lets me play while accomplishing something productive. Whether it's a gift, a donation quilt, or new decor for our home, I can spend the time and not feel guilty for "doing nothing". p.s. I've also gotten addicted to fabric!

I quilt because I thrive on being creative. I love quilting fabrics, especially Moda fabrics. I just love quilt patterns. I enjoy the whole process, picking out fabrics for that new quilt pattern, sewing the quilt together, doing the quilting stitches and even the binding. I love everything about quilting.

Hello Paula! What a lovely giveaway. I quilt because so much of what we do in life has no "end" ~ clean clothes get dirty, floors need re-vacuuming, dinner has to be cooked every night ~ but once a quilt is done, it's there to be enjoyed. I love that feeling that I've produced something special that will be used and cherished for years to come.

I learned how to sew from my grandmother and have made all types of clothing for my children. We (in the Czech Republic) did not have any history of quilting, so I did not know about this. But I have seen a lot of mostly american movies, where we can see beautiful quilts all over houses. And that is when I fell in love with quilting. For this sense of very cozy room :-))). I don´t like so much modern patchwork, quilt you put on the wall without any blocks. That does not appeal to me, I like old fashioned quilt laying on the bed.

I quilt because I am an artist and it calls to me. I love to see what I can create and love even more giving them to people and seeing their reactions. It is also something that can be passed down that was made by me. It is a very relaxing hobby for me.

Hmmmmmm...why do I quilt? I quilt because it gives me a way to express myself. The fabrics, colors, pattern that I choose is unique to me and there isn't another one exactly like it anywhere else in the world. When I snuggle under a quilt that my Grandmother made I feel like she is the room with me. I hope that I can create the same feeling with the quilts that I create too.

I quilt because it fills my inner need to create and it's my "Sanity Saver." I'd always have a baby-quilt in the works when we used to have to take Dad to the ER due to heart problems 3-4x yr. I love using color and TOTs to create texture, rhythm, and patterns in my quilts.I've got alot of UFOs due to my quilter's ADD~LOL!! I'd enjoy winning either the FQs or the book.

There are so many reasons why I quilt....to release some creative juices, to leave behind something of myself for family and friends, to relax and spend some quiet time with Christian music playing in the background....I find that quilting means more to me all the time. And one of the best parts is meeting and connecting with so many wonderful like-minded women. I recently read "A Single Thread" by Marie Bostwick. It's a wonderful fiction book about quilting that really describes why we do what we do! I'd highly recommend it to all your readers. Darlene B

I quilt because it helps me to relax in my busy household....it's my private spot of sanity....and since I keep on giving my quilts away then I guess I do it to give others some pleasure.....like my 85 yr old dad who uses it to cover himself in his lazy boy when he can't sleep in his bed....he says it keeps him nice and warm.
