Thanksgiving Confessions

True Confessions.......

Thanksgiving is officially held at my house now. Because of Dear Hubby's illness, travel is too difficult. Being away from home and his own bed is too much. While we aren't having a large group this year, we are still having 2 grandmas, future daughter in law, and all four of my kids here.

Phone calls were made, invitations issued, and confirmations received. I was excited. I sat basking in the warm glow of Thanksgivings past. Family, comfort foods, fun times.....ah, I LOVE THANKSGIVING. Then, late last week, reality hits. I'm not worried about the meal. Grandma is in charge, I'm just an assistant.

No.....what strikes terror in my heart???? The thought of all my quilting stuff sitting out where everyone can see it. I mean, it's relatively organized....relatively. Not really. I just don't have room here at mom's for all my quilting stuff. When we moved here 1 1/2 years ago to help her out, we thought it would be short term, so I wasn't concerned about all my sewing stuff. But, as I've sewn, I've pulled things out....and stacked them up.....and yeah, it's a mess.

So this past weekend, I started clearing off the sewing table. (My sewing room was once a breakfast room.... yeah, right in the big middle of everything.) Here is a pic of the containers that are out of the sewing room and are now on the way to the storage place for a one week stay!

Then it's all coming right back....I NEED every last piece of fabric.

The brown box on the bottom has current projects in it. And, some stuff from the top of the sewing table. Like magazines, papers printed off the internet, a few books, some scissors, pieces of fabric, etc. The green containers have strings in them. The brown paper bag and plastic bag are scraps that are awaiting delivery to a quilty friend here in town. (I've had them here waiting for about 4 months....we don't see each other often.) The clear rubber maid box are just scraps waiting for inspiration or to be cut into strips. And, the white baskets are strips....lights and darks from 1 1/2 inch to 4 inch and some squares, etc. These are my scraps...not what I call stash.

They are organized, I just don't have any place to put them. They have been stacked under the sewing table, behind the cutting table, under the cutting table, beside the cutting table, etc. right where I can get to them. But they aren't attractive. It looks horribly messy and just had to go.

So, true confessions....I'm hiding stuff in the storage building until after Thanksgiving and I suppose I'll have to do it again for Christmas. It's not easy downsizing. Cause I'm certainly NOT downsizing my fabric!!!!

True confessions.....what are you hiding for Thanksgiving????? LOL

Happy Quilting, stuffing, stashing, and hiding!!!!!!

My son and his family are coming to my home for Thanksgiving. While I have a lovely studio, I have been "creating" for weeks and the place looked like a hurricane blew through! This mornnig at the crack of dawn I put fabric back into baskets and drawers. I organized my other working supplies and tried to get everything put away. I did my best but finally ended up putting projects and extras into a large plastic storage container and shoved it under the cutting table. It will be a nightmare finding everything to get started up again after they leave but since my son & DIL have to sleep in the studio, I couldn't leave it the way it looked!

This year only people that live here will be at the Thanksgiving table . . . that means I don't have to hide anything - they already know *s*

I can tell you our future son-in-law is on his way to our house right now with my daughter. So my DH comes home from picking up daughter #2 in Des Moines (a 13 hour round trip he did today) and says I have to put all my quilt stuff away. Ahhh, I have like 2 hours - it isn't going to happen!

perhaps everyone could write/draw one square for you so you could make a memory quilt for the day...and then, you would have to keep out the supplies in case anyone needed anything! Afterall, it is the last Thanksgiving at home as a single man for one dear son.....
Happy Thanksgiving friend.

I don't have to clean anything...my kids and their friends will be here for turkey on Friday, but I have a sewing room upstairs so they won't see it. My longarm studio is another story, but they've all seen it a mess. Can't you just throw a nice tablecloth over those boxes and decorate them for Thanksgiving? Or maybe use it as a buffet for the food dishes? :o)

I love holidays! They FORCE me to clean my sewing room since I have a twin bed in there that is used by my grandson. The room looks really, really nice right now and even the ironing board has been folded and placed elsewhere out of sight.

LOL! My quilty stuff sits on a kitchen table right in the middle of the living room. yep, smack up against the picture window. Don't feel bad, but I do have to pack it all up for the Christmas Tree to go up. Just can't talk them into putting it somewhere else! LOL!
Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

Paula, since I babysit for my 13 month old granddaughters every day I have to keep the sewing things on the table by my chair ready to clean up in an instant. I've put all my applique things in a plastic container which I move to the breakfast bar when they arrive. My issues, I guess, are safety rather than unsightly but I still know how you feel!
